Food is one of the prime reasons for weight gain or obesity. But food is essential for health and life. And also not everyone gets obesity. So the quality of food is the reason for weight gain.

The type of foods consumed regulates body weight.

But one has to even realize that food is not the sole contributor to obesity.

There are many guys around who stay slim and underweight in-spite of consuming a good quantity of food.

While on the other hand, some look obese or overweight in-spite of having very little.

So there are other associated reasons besides food and also a type of foods that contribute to weight gain or obesity.

The factors which can contribute to weight gain besides food are

♦ the assimilation trait of the body (i.e. the extent of nutrition absorbed into the body after digestion),

♦ the genetic character,

♦ the physical activity and habits of the person etc.

Based on the assimilation trait, it is assumed that people who have low digestive capacity and less nutrition abortive capacity in their stomach remain underweight in-spite of a heavy amount of food consumed. So in these cases, easily digestible foods and those foods which give more nutrition in-spite of less absorption relative to the amount consumed should be considered.

The genetic character: This decides body constitution of and so one stays either slim, obese or average built. But to get into the desired fit one has to work hard and take steps to overcome the genetic character.

The physical activity and habits of the person; Sedentary habits, low physical activity adds to the fat content of the body. In these cases diet used should have less fat and also habituate regular weight loss exercises to control weight.

Diets we eat most of the time consist of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats as major constituents. Of them, both carbohydrates and fats are responsible for obesity. Both are meant to produce energy and heat required by the body but in high concentration, they tend to accumulate in the body leading to heavyweight or obesity.

So reducing both fat and carbohydrate content in the food greatly reduces the bodyweight in the long run.

On the other hand, proteins give strength and rigidity to the tissues. They form the physical mass of the cell and make them strong. Excess weight is mostly associated with loose body mass and tissue. So a decrease of carbohydrate and fat content and a raise in protein diet along with other essential nutrients and minerals can help weight loss and also make the body fit.

Proteins are richly available in pulses, eggs, meat, and milk while foods like bread, rice, wheat, oil contain less protein and more carbohydrates and fat.  Carbohydrate food in excess itself converts into fat in the body and, moreover both carbohydrates and fat have a tendency to accumulate.
